Apple looks for a bigger bite of the digital music cake
Apple has unveiled its new online music service, iTunes Match, that promises to allow users to access libraries of songs whether bought from the company's iTunes store or not. The service, which costs $25 a year in the US, will be compatible with Apple's new iCloud cloud-computing service. But don't expect it to be all-embracing - competition in the download music sector is fierce, and iTunes Match will deliberately not sync with the mobile products of Apple's rivals, such as devices from BlackBerry or tablets running Google's Android operating system.
