Dieci, new speaker line from Hertz
Recent technological breakthroughs and reducing material costs have led to a rapid improvement in the sound quality achievable from even some modestly priced speakers, so it's a great time to improve those dull sounding factory fitted speakers. Mind you, the looks of most budget speakers would probably not have you believe they can really improve the sound much.
Hertz has completely revamped its range so that, as well as sounding better than ever, they match performance with new hi-tech design and style. And they'll perform well even when driven directly from a head unit's relatively modest little power amp.
Striking new grille designs and a more subtle use of the trademark orange detail should succeed in putting this budget range on plenty of wish lists. The range consists of 4 models of high efficiency coaxial designs, or you can also use Dieci for serious system builds by choosing the 5" or 6" 2-way components, along with a choice of 10" or 12" sub woofer, with or without a bespoke box.
The Component speakers utilise the Hertz company's V-cone technology perfected on its top of the range Mille models. The deep cone profile helps to minimise problems with off-axis performance, often an issue when placing speakers in factory locations. It also provides clear and detailed high-mid frequency response and powerful bass.
The DT-16 tweeters are supplied with mounting kits enabling flush or dash mounting, and the small discrete crossover networks are easy to hide away. And right across the series of Dieci models, their high efficiency means that even the subs can be driven using modest power levels with good results, according to Hertz. As part of a system the subs will handle up to 300Watts.
The new models start at the DCX 100 2-way 4" coaxial at £39.99. There are 2-way 5-inch and 6-inch diameter coaxials and a 3-way 6 x 9-inch model (DCX 690) rated at handling up to 180 Watts peak (£64.99). The 2-way component systems feature either a 5-inch or 6-inch bass driver and retail for around £70, while the sub woofers are priced at £59.99 (DS250) and £74.99 for the 12-inch DS300 (300 Watts peak power handling). There also a 'wired-and-ready-to-rock' boxed sub-bass system with the DBX 250 at £149.99 (also claiming 300 Watts peak power handling).
